On September 26, 2025, Bishop Robert Pipta issued a formal decree to merge St. Nicholas Parish, Clinton Township, MI and St. Basil Parish, Sterling Heights, MI, into a single new parish entity, effective October 26, 2025. This merger was made after thoughtful pastoral consultation and aims to strengthen the Byzantine Catholic community north of Detroit by consolidating resources and ministries. The new parish will assume all assets, obligations, and responsibilities of the former parishes, including property, finances, and sacramental records. The decision reflects a broader eparchial strategy to adapt to evolving pastoral needs while honoring the legacy and traditions of both communities.
